mystic birch mug
I made my first ever dinnerware set as a gift with this pattern on it, and had so many comments with a desire to purchase in my studio that I made more! :) just one listing for them, but please keep in mind these pieces do vary slightly in the design.
About the process ~ I use a process called “sgraffito” to make these pieces. It comes from the Italian word “graffiare”, which means “to scratch”. In the context of pottery, I paint a layer of colored slip (or really runny clay) over the base of the mug, and once it dries I “scratch” or carve away that slip layer to create images and patterns. All of my sgraffito pieces are hand carved without stencils which makes each a unique, one-of-a-kind work.
A decently sized mug that holds ~14-16oz. made from brown stoneware clay.
Dishwasher, microwave and oven safe. Handmade in Longmont, Colorado with mud and love.
