light II lunar friendship series mug

$66.00

About the Lunar Friendship Series ~ During winter of ‘24, I was planning to drive through the rocky mountains to moab to visit a friend of mine. It was going to be a full moon, and had packed up my car with intentions of spending the night sleeping under the moon in the mountains to break up my drive and spend some delicious time basking in her beams. however, as the day went on, it got colder, and I found myself growing more anxious about snow/being too cold/etc. I have a stubborn streak for sure, and it took quite a bit of coaxing to convince myself I didn’t have to drive to the highest mountaintop in order to experience the moon in her true beauty. I decided to stay home, and was pleasantly surprised the moonlight washing in through our living room window! I worked on capturing the grace and mystery that came with that evening, using my art to channel the reminder that we have permission to give ourselves some patience and little wiggle room when things don’t go as planned.

About the process ~ I use a process called “sgraffito” to make these pieces. It comes from the Italian word “graffiare”, which means “to scratch”. In the context of pottery, I paint a layer of colored slip (or really runny clay) over the base of the mug, and once it dries I “scratch” or carve away that slip layer to create images and patterns. All of my sgraffito pieces are hand carved without stencils which makes each a unique, one-of-a-kind work.

A decently sized mug that holds ~14-16oz. made from stoneware porcelain clay.

Dishwasher, microwave and oven safe. Handmade in Longmont, Colorado with mud and love.
